Your gateway to Pathfinder Fiction

admin | August 18, 2010

To celebrate Paizo’s new Pathfinder Tales Fiction Line, Pathfinder Chronicler and Wayfinder proudly announce our first fiction contest for fans of Pathfinder Chronicles. Do you have “a knack” for writing fiction? Are you a Pathfinder fan? If so, fire-up your favorite word processing program and get your creative juices flowing, because this is the contest for you. A single winner will be awarded a $100 Paizo Gift Certificate and a reserved spot in the next Wayfinder fanzine, including six pages of space with extra art! Two runner ups will receive $50 Paizo Gift Certificates. If that wasn’t enough, none other than Paizo’s James Sutter (their fiction editor) will be the final judge. Currently he’s only reading solicited fiction from well-known authors with agents. What’s an opportunity like that worth to you?  Head over to PFContest for details.

New:  James Sutter Q&A Interview!

PF Contest 2010 Final Judge: James Sutter Q&A

admin | August 17, 2010

This just in!  Very important advice from our Final Judge.  We sent James Sutter a Q&A interview to help everyone put their best foot forward.   He kindly took the time from his mad Winter Witch schedule to help make your story the best possible.  Hope this helps!

PFC: It would seem that a lot of people have a hard time writing a short story. The characters and the events are usually too lofty to resolve in 3000-4500 words. In preparing to write a short story of this size, what would you suggest?

JS:”With a short story, I think it’s important to bite off a tale that you know you can chew. Even in a novel, you don’t need to knock off a god or take over a kingdom in order to create something that feels fun and epic. That’s even more important in a short story. You only get a few scenes, at most–make sure that what you want to tell can fit in that. If it can’t, ask yourself if there’s a smaller subset of your chosen story that could stand on its own. Road to Jordan

Montalve | August 1, 2010

Every character is brought to life through the concept of necessity, either we have in mind a character or we need a picture to create a story. The writer is left to paint each character through words and metaphors, sometimes that is enough and sometimes we need a little more.

I have  worked on for the past year and a half on my own character Jordan Fenix.  I have labored to give her life through words and have always had a very especific idea on how she looked.  She’s based on the Female Templar from Hellgate’s London, though others saw her in different ways.

Originaly I created an image of her using Soul Calibur IV Character Editor since I lack drawing and painting skills.  The program showed a lot of her, but it wasn’t enough for me.

From this picture and the development of my story, there developed two types of looks which became part of Jordan’s Style (cof cof actually three, but we are not talking about that), and from these arose two dress lines for Jordan’s artistry: Full combat regalia and Ceremonial dress.

The first of Jordan’s portraits came from null, she was in need so I asked for an image of Jordan in a ceremony dress style.  This was her first quick sketch.

.

Ceremonial Dress

Jordan, Servant of Iomedae was the very first complete image of her, it was done exactly in the style I asked for by null and since then,  I have fallen in love with her dress designs.

.

Jordan Relaxing was done by as a request.  For me, she drew her in a wonderful style, bringing  Jordan to greater detail with the expression and the attitude I was looking for.

.

Here Jordan Fenix readies for ceremony by .  This  was the culmination of everything before this specific look.  Jordan looks marvelous and realistic,  absolutely beautiful, bringing both Lylla’s dress design and JessAlly to wonderful detail.

.

Armored Jordan

Jordan’s first armored design was done by asking someone from Paizo’s Forum, he did a few designs and added a few changes until I was happy.

Jordan Fenix, dressed for battle by ; in many senses this is the quintaessential Jordan, fit for war, practical and proud of herself and her faith. Trully her father’s daugther.

.

Realistic and Sexy Jordan Fenix was created in 3D by , this is a sexier and sensual interpretation (some would say impractical) of Jordan, but the true merit of this image is that it gave a realistic and lovely face to my beloved cleric, just imagine some chain mail covering her lower half… still I love how she looks.
.

Jordan Fenix, Iomedae’s Poster Girl,  gave me the honor when she accepted to make an image of my favorite cleric. Here she is  proudlyshown killing a demon and also setting her eyes on her next target… her expression wouldn’t change if they were a couple demons or if she was surrounded… either she prevails.. or she takes down as many as she can… serving Justice to the last.
.

Jordan Fenix, ecclesiastic investigator of Iomedae, last image. I have been waiting for this image for a long time… but it was worth it :)

did a wonderful work with my beloved cleric.

And yes, this is the last image of THIS Jordan… well there are others done already… but now I am working in a different version and design for Jordan in her own setting. I hope to have something to show all soon.

Silver and Bold

admin | March 5, 2010

little silver ladyI am proud to present Jonathan McAnulty’s story featuring his notorious character Arysta.  For those who may not have read A Harvest to Remember,  Jonathan introduced his tenacious heroine with that first short story.  Following on the heels of that well received piece, Jonathan takes us to another place where his characters face an unusual dilemma.  To date, The Silver Lady is the second largest story on the site, rivaling Clinton Boomer’s The Road to Varno.  However, The Silver Lady is the largest completed work Pathfinder Chronicler has produced and we are very proud of Jonathan for hitting his goal in stride.  Enjoy!

Playing D&D made me a better writer

1st Edition D & D

While I have always dreamed of different worlds and landscapes, Dungeons and Dragons helped me to broaden the scope of my imagination. It taught me to see a world from more than one perspective. It taught me how to take on the role of more than just one character. It taught me how to plan a story and present it. It most certainly brought me closer to literature.

I am not alone in this. Even published writers might say the same, as they do in this article.
